The Detroit Pistons unveiled on Monday a seven-piece collection showcasing the rich heritage of music from the Motor City in the late 60s and the overall spirit of basketball.

Michigan lawmakers push for alcohol sales at Big Ten sporting arenas

Several Michigan representatives are leading an effort to allow alcohol sales at college sport venues throughout the state.

During the summer of 2022, Rep. Graham Filler (R-Clinton County), Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit), and Sen. Curtis Hertel (D-East Lansing) presented a plan in July which would allow a lift on Michigan’s alcohol ban at on-campus events and allow university governing boards to apply for their liquor licenses.

Detroit takes the lead: Study reveals Hockeytown is No. 1 major city where NHL athletes are born

DETROIT – You’ve got Mark Howe, Kevin Hatcher, David Legwand, and so many others who were born in Detroit and had the chance to shine on the professional stage.

What you need to know about the 2023 Northville Downs horse racing season

NORTHVILLE, Mich. – Time to giddy up as the horse races at Northville Downs starts this month.

The horse track will have its first of 52 race nights on April 7 beginning at 7 p.m. Races will be contested on Fridays and Saturdays from April 7 through Sept. 30. There will be between 8 and 16 races per day, according to the MGCB.

2023 marks the 90th year of pari-mutuel wagering for the horse racing industry in the state of Michigan.

Michigan State University honors basketball coach Tom Izzo on 68th birthday

EAST LANSING, Mich. – On Monday, the Spartans are celebrating the birthday of Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo.

Izzo has been with the Spartans for 28 years and has a long list of accomplishments. Over the past 25 years, he has compiled a 633-239 record, which included a 53-game winning streak.

Grand Valley State football coach Matt Mitchell leaving to join staff at Wisconsin

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State University’s head football coach Matt Mitchell is leaving to join the staff of the Wisconsin Badgers.

The west Michigan D-2 football team has announced that their head coach has stepped down. The school made the announcement on Sunday night, saying that the now-former coach of the Lakers will be pursuing other coaching opportunities.

Wayne State University’s longtime athletic director placed on administrative leave

DETROIT – Wayne State University has put its longtime athletic director on administrative leave.

Rob Fournier became the athletic director for the Detroit university in 2000. The director’s latest accomplishments was negotiating a contract with the Detroit Pistons in 2019 and getting a $28 million basketball arena built for both Wayne State Warriors and Pistons G-league.

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions have announced that an eight-foot statue of Barry Sanders will be placed at Ford Field.

The Lions made the announcement during the halftime show at Sunday’s homecoming game. This dedication will make Sanders the first ever Lions player to become immortalized with a statue.

Detroit Lions, Gleaners Community Food Bank team up for can drive ahead of Sunday’s game

DETROIT – You can support a good cause ahead of Sunday football by bringing a canned item to Ford Field.

On Sunday, football fans attending the Detroit Lions vs. Miami Dolphins game can bring any canned food item, which will be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank.

The can food drive will take place 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Gate G.

Any person that brings a canned item will be entered to win two tickets to an upcoming Lions home game.

Lions QB partners with Detroit nonprofit to launch clothing collection

DETROIT – Lions quarterback Jared Goff has partnered with Detroit students in a new clothing collection collaboration.

The collection launched this week, and you may have heard about it in the most recent episode of the HBO documentary “Hard Knocks.”

All the t-shirts, hoodies and hats that are part of this collection were designed by youth in the Give Merit’s Fate program.
